How to Soundproof Your Hotel Effectively (Part 2)

Advice and solutions for soundproofing rooms and common areas in hotels - Detailed description of application techniques and soundproofing materials.

As we mentioned in the 1st part of the Article, the main benefits of an investment in Professional Soundproofing in a hotel are:

  • Increase customer satisfaction
  • Improving the reputation of the hotel
  • Increasing staff productivity
  • Reduction of complaints.
  • Increase in the commercial value of the property

But how can a high level of soundproofing be achieved in a Hotel?

 1. Choosing suitable Headphones & Soundproofing Systems according to the needs of each Project and the Soundproofing Goal that has been set.

In cases where there is no limitation of the minimum space occupied by the Soundproofing Constructions, certified Soundproofing Dry Construction systems (Investments, Partitions  & Ceilings) are qualified which may be manufactured by :

  • Single or Double Soundproof Partitions & Investments with the placement of Special Sound insulating panels which can simultaneously provide High Sound Insulation, Thermal Insulation & Moisture protection. (*)
  • Single or Double Soundproof Ceilings Anti-Vibration Suspended. In the case of Soundproof Ceilings, the same systems can be applied as those of Partitions & Investments placing great emphasis on their correct suspension through Anti-Vibration Suspensions.

 2Construction of soundproof floating floors.  ;

Equally important operations that must be taken into account for the Soundproofing of a Hotel are the Soundproofing of Floors. The solutions vary depending on the construction stage of the hotel, the desired sound insulation, the possibility of installing underfloor heating, etc.

The Soundproofing Floor categories recommended for the Hotel Soundproofing category are

  • Sound Insulation Applications Under Screed. In cases where the building is constructed from scratch and can be adjusted (planning phase) the level of the height of the finished floor, Soundproof Anti-Vibration Membranes suitable for thick and thin concrete slabs as well as for cases of underfloor heating are installed.
  • Sound Insulation Applications Direct Under Floor. In cases where the Hotel is operating and there is a desire to renovate in order to increase the Sound Insulation & For anti-vibration protection, Sound Insulation Membrane solutions are preferred, which provide great Sound Insulation and are placed directly under the final floor (laminate, Tile, marble, etc.).
  •  Elevated Soundproofing Floors

The special Soundproof Raised Floors are the most suitable solution for Soundproofing & Anti-vibration protection in Hotels

Their advantages:

  • Wide Height Adjustment Range
  • Possibility of placing the system in indoor and outdoor areas (roof garden)
  • Traffic
  • Receiving large loads
  • FSC Certification & PEFC for the Environment
  • Placing in hotels under construction but also in operation.

 3. Use of soundproof frames:

As already mentioned, windows and doors are the main sources of noise escape especially in Hotels a of older construction.

Beyond the importance of installing Soundproofing Frames, hotels must also keep up with and comply with the current legislation which provides for the installation of Doors with Fire Retardant properties. Therefore, in order for the overall Sound Insulation of a room to exist and at the same time meet the minimum Fire Resistance specifications, doors with combined properties Sound Insulation & Fireproof.

 4. Soundproof Sealing of Joints & Hole

The sealing of the holes during the Construction of Soundproofing Interventions or the Soundproofing sealing of holes & of pre-existing joints is paramount to the overall result. And their soundproof sealing requires the application of certified materials which ensure the result. It is worth noting that the omission of detailed sealing of holes and joints has the effect of reducing the overall Sound Insulation and achieving a lower performance than that which the materials themselves provide intact.

 5. Mechanical SoundproofingAnti-vibration Machine Bearing:

  • In the case of ventilation systems where channels intersect a common partition of two rooms, Special Soundproofing Sound Traps should be installed to prevent the spread of noise from one room to another.
  • Also important is the sound insulation and anti-vibration protection of the external machines which are usually placed on the roof.

In this case :

should be taken care of

a) Their anti-vibration isolation with special Anti-Vibration Springs to avoid the transmission of stereo transmitted noise through of the structural elements.

b) Construction of Special Sound Curtains (in specific cases enclosures / Soundproof Cages) for the protection of neighboring apartments and buildings.
